The Brief
Consistency across locations to align design approach
Following the success of their Exeter office, Stephens Scown expanded into Taunton, relocating from serviced offices to a new home at Blackbrook Business Park. The brief was to create a workspace aligned with the established Exeter design, while responding to the needs of a growing regional team. The space, recently refurbished to CAT A standard, required a considered fit-out to introduce client-facing and employee-focused environments, including a business lounge, boardroom, multi-functional event space, and a dedicated breakout and wellness area. The aim was to deliver a cohesive, flexible, and welcoming workplace that supports both staff and clients.

Space
The layout balances professional client-facing areas with spaces designed for employee well-being and collaboration. A business lounge and boardroom provide formal settings for client engagement, while a flexible events space supports training, meetings, and social activities. Open-plan workspaces accommodate the growing team, complemented by a breakout and wellness area designed for relaxation and informal interaction. The arrangement ensures a natural flow between spaces, supporting both focused work and collaborative activity, while maintaining a consistent and familiar experience for staff across multiple office locations.
Design
The design language closely follows the Exeter office, creating a unified identity across both locations. Consistent furniture, colour palettes, and finishes reinforce the brand, while bespoke joinery elements add character and functionality. Existing CAT A carpet tiles were retained and reused across open-plan and meeting spaces, supporting a sustainable approach. The overall aesthetic balances professionalism with warmth, using considered materials and detailing to create a cohesive environment. Every element was carefully integrated to deliver a refined, flexible workspace that reflects Stephens Scown’s values and supports their continued growth.
