Establishing a new home in Exeter.
The Brief
A thoughtfully designed workspace that supports a growing legal team
Expanding into Exeter, Porter Dodson sought a new home to support their growing team while creating a welcoming, professional environment for clients. Moving from serviced offices, the aim was to establish a permanent workspace that reflects the firm’s brand and values. The brief called for an open-plan office, dedicated breakout areas, and a series of meeting rooms, including a formal boardroom. By balancing functionality, comfort, and client experience, the design carefully considers both staff and visitor needs, delivering a workspace that supports day-to-day operations while strengthening connection, professionalism, and a sense of arrival.
Project Impact
- A well-considered environment that works on every level
- A future-ready workspace that gives us flexibility moving forward
- The result has exceeded our expectations in every way
Space
Located in Dix’s Field in the heart of Exeter’s business district, the office benefits from large sash windows and views of surrounding greenery. The layout maximises natural light, creating an open and airy environment across the workspace. Five banks of desks accommodate the growing team, supported by informal breakout seating for collaboration and relaxation. Integrated storage with planting subtly divides staff and client areas, maintaining openness while enhancing privacy. Three meeting rooms, including a dedicated boardroom, are positioned to allow both focused discussions and team interaction, ensuring the space supports a variety of working styles and client engagements.
Design
The design combines clean, contemporary finishes with warm, natural elements to create a welcoming and professional atmosphere. White desk surfaces and glazed meeting rooms maintain light flow, while acoustic detailing ensures privacy for sensitive conversations. Brand colours are introduced through soft furnishings, reinforcing identity without overwhelming the space. The reception area features natural wood panelling and integrated signage, creating a strong yet approachable first impression. Biophilic elements and upgraded staff facilities, including a refreshed teapoint, enhance comfort and well-being. Every detail is carefully considered to deliver a cohesive, functional workspace that supports both the team and their clients.
